Estate update

Here is the first item for sale from our huge estate we scored. I decided to test the waters in Ebay.

So far so good, as of right now this first lot of vintage jeans is at $72.00! I'm happy with this so when I get home from my trip. I will dive in and add lots more.

As for my trip......

I'm going to visit this beautiful lady!

I am so excited, and can't hardy wait.

4 girls seeing shows, lights, tours, shopping, walking, walking and walking! I forgot about eating too! We are going to have a blast! I will let you know how it was next week.

BARN FINDS

This weekend we had the opportunity to scavenge a barn.

This is a great old Texaco sign.

Galvanized cans are always on our list.

Skull, horns, bed springs, misc rusty metal.

The red piece is the front to an old RC Cola Machine.

We hope to find the rest of the machine in another barn.

This is a very small Chevrolet tail gate.

We were told it was a custom built pickup bed.

I can't wait to see it cleaned up.

Andy is really big into wooden boxes right now.

He has tons stored up. Get ready Warrenton, he's trying to figure out a really cool display.

I am loving this yellow wooden chair.

It needs a good cleaning also.

More rusty metal and bats for the collection.

We have lots of work to do. Still sorting and cleaning items from the estate we scored. Too much to photograph at this time. 2 storage units full! Need to get it out of there before it eats up all our profit!

DUBLIN DR. PEPPER

For years we have always driven right through Dublin, Texas and never stopped at the original Dr. Pepper Bottling Plant.

A couple of weeks ago we were headed home and decided to stop. They give guided tours of the plant and the museum.

It was very interesting and we loved all the memorabilia that was all around.

There is only been 10% of the owners personal Dr. Pepper advertising collection on display in the museum. They recently acquired property across the street from the plant and just this past weekend opened up the new museum with all of the collection on display.

Now we will have to make another trip to see this huge collection.

This formula of Dr. Pepper is still made with Imperial Sugar. Yummy!

Funny thing - we stopped in Stephenville on our way and purchased an old Coca-cola thermometer!

Mr. Dr. Pepper might not be to happy with us! If you ever get the chance to stop you should.

Onto junkin' news. We recently acquired a huge estate and are working diligently on sorting and cleaning. Hopefully we can show you some goodies in the near future. Lots of work to do and it is sooooo hot!

Successful Warehouse Sale

Memorial Day Weekend we held our first Warehouse Sale.

We were very satisfied with the outcome.

Here are some photos.

It was a tremendous amount of work getting this storeroom organized and set up.

But we hung in there and got it done.

The heat was hard on us. Next time (we decided yes, it will be worth it) hopefully we can get an air conditioning unit.

So if you missed this sale hopefully you can make the next one. No date has been set yet.

We just finished 3 hard days working on the next big deal and have lots more new merchandise to add.

An old barn door, the perfect color green to match the trim on our house. The letters are made from old shingles. The best part - I am "Honey" to my granddaughters! It is sitting on the front porch right now and I smile every time I drive up to the house. Yes, Honey is happy! Soon.....Susan

Update on Andy: He is doing really great! Until, he does too much on occasion and gets set back a few days. But overall he is getting much stronger. Thanks for your support and prayers for his recovery. He feels better than he has in several years now.

JUNKIN' FEVER

I have had junkin' fever recently (well admittedly, all the time). This beautiful weather we have been experiencing is wonderful! Last weekend I met Lacy in Comanche and we did some serious business! We hit a huge sale of an old building being cleaned out. This building was going to be torn down and everything had to go. She found a roll of white picket fence, a large tub filled with clay pots and much more. Later she spied some concrete pieces around back. Us junkers know how to snoop it all out. Here are a few photos of the items I found.

We had the best time and I hope we can do it again soon.

NEW JEWELRY

I decided I wanted to make some junk jewelry necklaces for a few Christmas gifts. This first one I made for my friend and boss. I love the colors in this and how it turned out.

Lacy was the lucky recipient of my second piece. She was gifted a serape dress from the King Ranch catalog so I wanted to add something a little special.

It is a western/indian design. Looks great on her! Of course, what wouldn't. Hate to brag, but she is just amazingly beautiful.

So .... When I opened my gift from Andy I received these three wonderful books on creating jewelry.

These people are amazingly talented. I have just thumbed through the pages over and over again.

So....Next I'm going to make me a long list of the materials I need and go do some serious metal shopping. Hopefully I can make the time to create some fun things for Warrenton. If not, maybe my Etsy store. Stay tuned......Susan

We spent most of the weekend working on junk (I mean treasures)! Cleaning, sorting, packing, moving, etc. We even found some things we forgot we had!

What a beautiful day today turned out to be. The warm sun was much appreciated after a full week of gloom. The much needed rain is awesome. If you live in the country you can already see the little winter grass growing. It is amazing what a rain will do. Speaking of rain, I realized today that we still have a rain storage barrel on a stand for sale. We need to put a sign on it I think, no one knows what it is.

Andy has had 2 weeks of physical therapy behind him now and he is getting stronger every day. He did too much yesterday, but was on a roll to get some things done. We are looking forward to a lot of good days! Have a great week.......Susan

Feet kind of back on the ground!

Hello everyone! Sorry we haven't been keeping in very good contact. Our update today is that Andy received a new lumbar brace last week. Hooray!!! So now it's out with the miserable turtle shell brace seen above and in with a more flexible, comfortable brace. He will now begin physical therapy. That will be hard on him, so please remember him in your prayers. As to an update on our home construction - we are so close to being finished. Just small details now but all the painting is done and the furniture is back in it's place. We have been practically camping out in the back bedroom of the house. What a mess, and I think I was very close to insanity! We just had a wonderful Christmas with our family and are now looking forward to what the New Year will bring for us. We recently went to an auction and scored some huge tables and industrial pieces. I had mentioned we needed display pieces and boy do we have them now! It is time to start getting serious about Warrenton and work when the weather permits.

Back in Cherokee

Well, we are back in Cherokee. Not home yet, our house is under construction. We will be staying at Andy's parents for a few weeks or until construction is over. Andy is in lots of pain and moving very slowly. He has to wear a brace made of hard plastic whenever he gets out of bed. He has those big bulky boots on both feet. He is walking on crutches. We still have a long road ahead of us. Our daughter Lacy has come to sit with Andy so I can get back to work. I will try an keep you posted.

I'm starting to have second thoughts about Warrenton. I'm worried it will just be to much for us. We'll just see how much help we can round up and see what happens.

Thanks fo much for your prayers and concern. We really have felt it all. We have been overwhelmed with the love that has been shown toward us. Soon....Susan & Andy

Estate Sale

Hello junkers! Do you know how hard it is when your husband is lying in a hospital bed and you drive by an Estate Sale sign?!! Well, I did just drive on by, but man I wanted to stop. I guess he really should come first! For an update, yesterday he lost his nose tube, catheter, oxygen and heart monitor. Feeling so much better. He walked a couple of times and his stomach is finally working properly. Hoping it will just be a few more days before we can go home. Thank you all for your love and support. Soon......Susan

Fred's (Andy) accident

Hello everyone, i just found a computer at the place I'm staying for a few nights. Andy was involved in a head on traffic accident on Monday afternoon. He was air lifted to Brackenridge Hospital in Austin. We have been here now for almost a week. He has a broken back, right shoulder, left ankle and ribs. His back injury was severe, no paralysis thank the Lord. He had surgery Wednesday and they did a fusion at L1. His back pain is much better but his stomach is still not working properly. They drained fluid off his lungs yesterday and today he is feeling much better. He still has the drain tube in his nose and many more tubes and wires. He did get up today and walk. He has a custom made brace that looks like a turtle shell. He can not get out of bed without it. He will have a lengthy recovery, but he will get there. For those of you that are wondering about Warrenton, we have this wonderful team of family and friends that are going to help us get loaded up and delivered. Not saying we will be there the whole time, but all that good junk will be there. We have been overwhelmed with the acts of love that have come our way. All your calls, cards, texts, emails, gifts will not ever be forgotten. We send much love to Marcella and her family for their loss and hope to see them soon. Thank you all again for your concerns. NEW LAWN FURNITURE

I told Andy a couple of weeks ago, I wanted to bring my metal table and chairs that were out at Fred's World back to the house so we could have a place to sit and enjoy coffee and evenings outside. I love to eat outside. I know it's really hot right now, but we eat late anyway.

Well, I found this great little set this weekend at a yard sale. Perfect! I think it will even fit on the front porch. We'll see about that, but for now, I've already enjoyed my cup of coffee!

It's time to get very serious about Warrenton. It is so hot, but I bet we get it done. We have so much stuff this time - we need more space. I'm off to clean some things. Soon.....Susan

Biker Dude!

Colt was home recently for a little R & R. He's been working in Lafayette, Indiana. He works for a company that has purchased the first trucks in North America that have a lift high enough to work on wind turbans from the outside. Before, all work has to be done from the inside (climbing all the way up). They have had contracts in Oregon, Washington, California, Indiana, and Texas. He's hoping for Australia and Europe too! He just loves being up that high. Mom and Dad don't like it that much but he's happy. Anyway, he recently had his 1982 Harley Davidson Sturgis edition bike serviced and went for a joy ride. Stopped by on his way home and I snapped a few photos. This bike was originally my uncles. He custom painted the designs and fixed it all up. Nice ride - I don't want to ride though!

Lacy's Garden

We visited with our daughter Lacy and her family this weekend. The girls were in the 4th of July Parade in Glenrose, TX and then later were in a small Little Sparkler Pageant. They have worked really hard on their little garden. It is sooo cute!

View from the back side. The little shed is even decorated. She works at a nursery and she rescues plants that are being discarded. They all need a little love, and I think they are getting that.

It is all coming along very good. The girls are having a great time picking veges.

Who can go on a trip without junking?! As always, the pickup was full by the time we got home. Actually it was full before we got to Glenrose! I'll show you later....Soon....Susan

Country Living Oops!

I received my copy of Country Living magazine yesterday in the mail. This afternoon when I got home from work, I plopped down to soak it up. It was going good until I reached page 75, twice. A printing error I guess, 8 pages (16 counting front and back) are printed twice. Then I noticed the very last page, only one page of Patriotic, July 4th! What's wrong with these people, why can't they show some patriotism now that we need it more than ever! Lastly, on the binding I noticed July/August - does this mean we will only be receiving every 2 months? Ok, I have vented now! How do you feel about this? Soon....Susan

Fredericksburg Trade Days

We have our booth set up now in Fredericksburg. We got home last night at midnight! It takes so much work and we really didn't have that much merchandise. Hot, sweaty and stinky we were! I hope sea shells are hot now, I've ended up with quite a few. I just love the stripped chair. I have really enjoyed working with the lavender. I hope it sells well. LOVING THIS LAVENDER

I recently made a visit to a local winery, Alamosa Wine Cellars. They have several bushes of lavender and advertized "cut yourself". I'm not very familiar with it and was curious. I made a quick dash on Saturday afternoon and learned a lot. Brittany helped me and she was wonderful! She taught me how to make lavender wands. So pretty and they smell sooooo goooood!!

Here are a few pictures of the plants, even some pretty grape clusters. Be sure and check out their winery if you are in the hill country. It is a really fun place to visit and they are very friendly.

Recent Finds

I went to an auction a few weeks ago and picked up this chair. Everyone there thought I was crazy and kept asking me what I was going to do with it. I kept repeating myself - "Nothing" I love it the way it is! When I got home with it Fred thought is was "Kick A..." also!

We cleaned out a barn recently and found several rolls of burlap sacks. Some are plain, but most have coffee labels, etc. These bags were used for pecans in our part of the country. In case you didn't know, San Saba is the Pecan Capital of the World. They are all in great shape.

Here's a cool sign Fred found too. How do you like the way I flipped the trailer? I don't know why they didn't load it upright! The ice cream cone attaches to it. Love it! Sure is big!

This is a cool piece he found. Galvanized invention for farmers. Andy scored another deal today. He just keeps bringing it in. I think we will have to rent the whole Bar W Field next show! Soon.....Susan

HAIL YES

We had a terrible hail storm last week. I got a call from our neighbor that it was coming. I ran out to the pickup just as it hit. I was going to go downtown and get under the awning at the old station. On the way to town, our poor old dog Scooter was running home being bombed like crazy. I pulled over and let him in the vehicle with me. Man, wet stinky dogs!! We then headed back toward town. By the time we got there it was really hitting hard. It hailed for a solid 40 minutes. Anywhere from nickel, quarter and golf ball size hail. Coming from every direction. The wind was bad too. Just yards behind us a huge old tree was uprooted. Many in a little strip headed toward our house were a mess. When we finally got home, our pump house was overturned and the pressure tank was broken off the pipe. No water! Great! A piece of siding was even off the side of the house. There are dead leaves and limbs all over town. I don't think we will ever get it all cleaned up. All our vehicles have damage.

I had just been to the nursery where Lacy works the

weekend before and bought some new plants to make a flower bed. Needless to say they all look very sad. I'm embarrassed to even show you a photo of them. They look like they haven't been attended to.

Here is what's left of our tomato and pepper plants. The peppers have been abundantly producing for quite a while now and we were just getting small tomatoes. I think most of the tomatoes will come back, but I'm not sure about the peppers.

We've been working on our rent house in Cherokee for a new tenant.

Glad that's all done, now I'm moving on to the next one in San Saba.

Somewhere in here I need to prepare for our new space at the Fredericksburg Trade Days. We have rented a space in a barn. I've got it mostly all in my head, but getting it all layed out is the big part. Andy said to just leave that up to him. I will have faith. He always comes through.

FAREWELL GOOD FRIEND

We lost our good friend Doug yesterday to his fight with throat cancer. These photos were taken before and at the blog party that Theresa Cano hosts each show in Warrenton. Doug's brother was our chauffer to the blog party. Doug loved to come to Warrenton to buy things for his Victorian home. He was a wonderful craftsman. He and Renee came up to Lampasas for the city wide yard sales a while back and then came on over to Cherokee afterwards to spend some time with us in the hill country. They even shared the Halloween carnival with us. We have always enjoyed spending time with them and he will surely be missed. Renee, take care and we'll be in touch. Estate Sale Finds

Recently we headed to an estate auction. It was a Dr.'s estate and he had lots of medical equipment and related items.

Andy bought all of the medical books. (Renee you would have really liked this stuff). Later he scored the lawyer book cases. He really wants to keep them but they should really be for sale. He will probably end up with them for Father's Day, but don't tell him!

It's all unloaded now and packed tight. Now I'm still going through my Lometa estate sale loot. I've already acquired 3 trash bags full of vintage clothing to be washed up. There are some real beauties there along with lots of fun things too. I think it will take forever to sort through it all.
I'm working on another post for a later time. Maybe I won't be so far between.

And I'm a junkaholic.....!!!!!??????? This is my final purchase at the estate sale on Saturday. The cashier let me know that all the barrels that they had used to make tables were full of things. " What" I asked, quilts, linens, clothing, papers, photos, etc. Many of these barrels had been dumped in the garage to be sorted. When they ran out of time before the sale, they just shut the door. I asked to see and quickly called Andy. He told me that he wasn't there and couldn't see it all and I would have to make the decision on my own. Well, I went with my gut feeling and told them I would purchase the contents of the building for a minimal fee. Locked the door and left. Below are a few shots I took before I left.

I asked the cashier if they would be marking down prices. She said yes, Saturday after lunch. So you know me, after work I headed back for the bargains. And, yes they were bargains. Andy found this fantastic sign last week. It is REAL big. I had a hard time photographing it while it was laying down. Nice old porcelain sign with lights. Most are broken, but great piece. If you know anyone who collects them, please have them give us a buzz.

Man! Is it the beautiful spring weather or the wonderful Warrenton sales that we had that is giving us junkin' fever! I recently found these wonderful white, metal candelabras. Perfectly rusted and chipped!

These candle sticks are the cutest. Real sticks. Yes, they are wooden.

This little metal tray is the best! Wouldn't we all love to have those jars. Notice the burlap as a table cover.

And all these great Readers Digest books. The covers are all just wonderful designs. I will work on a project with them. Boy I've been having lots of fun. Elton John Concert

This past Saturday, my friend Lynn and my mom rode with me to Austin to the Elton John Concert. It was a great time! Bless his heart - he was like the little Everyready Bunny. He just kept going and going and going! He played for 3 hours non stop. Played all his songs. Great show!

For you that don't know, my grandma name is "Honey". My mom had found this little candy bunny named "Honey". She couldn't resist and brought it to me today. Since Andy is at Warrenton in my pickup, I am in the Ranger with no A/C. Needless to say, by the time I arrived home, my cute little bunny had shriveled up on me! Sorry Mom! I am keeping it for the girls though, I bet it still tastes good. Can't wait to see them and Colt. He will be coming in tomorrow for the Easter weekend.

I found this little, big bunny at Warrenton from our fellow vendor Ron from Kansas. I knew I had to have it the moment I saw it. It is made of heavy, hard plastic. Cute little nicks here and there make it very shabby. Now I better get the rest of the decorating done!

WINDY WARRENTON

Well, after a great attempt to get semi-set up, Warrenton is in full swing. We arrived on Thursday and after the wind and bad weather hit on Saturday morning, we decided to just go home and round up another load. We went back on Sunday morning with a BIG load. (See the photo below of the hardware bins.) Here are a couple of photos of the booth so far. Andy brought be back home last night and will be going back today. I will be back on Friday evening for the weekend to help out. I never seem to get the booth the way I want it before I have to come back to work.

I was already out of a several nests before I shot this photo, so it looks a little bare.

Sorry no photos and I'm sorry I've been a really bad blogger lately. We have been working on Warrenton trailers. We are almost loaded and still have tons of stuff that won't fit! Sound familiar. Maybe not to you, but we are really bad hoarders. Andy has spent the day at Fred's World going through all the rusty matter out there. He is bringing lots of it. He's also bringing western items this time. If it will fit. I'm afraid we won't have enough room in our space. Our tent is too big and the outside space is too small. Oh well, I bet we make do just fine. We will be arriving early on the 18th for anyone who wants to come pick at us or help unload boxes (Lisa that's for you)! See you all there. Soon.....Susan

Here is the tour of the McWilliams home I had promised earlier. I could have posted sooner, but I had misplaced the photos. This home was built with many salvaged architectural pieces through out. This front door is fantastic! Massive!

My favorite place. The photo is not good, but this built in day bed has shelving on both ends. TV on one end. The window and view are just wonderful. Who would ever want to leave this spot.

BIG BAD HUNTER

For years, Colt has stalked and tried to kill some of the ducks on the pond behind our home. Decades ago, this pond was always loaded with many different duck breeds and lots of bird watchers would come lurk. I guess that's why it's not called a tank (that's pond in Texas slang) .
One of my favorite stories of his stalking was when he was still in high school. One afternoon I looked out my bedroom window and could see something red in the pasture. After a closer look, I could tell that someone had parked on the highway and was slowly making their way to the pond. Once they got closer I could tell it was the boys. His friend was wearing a bright red shirt! I don't know how they thought they could sneak up. They were always hunting or fishing. What a wonderful place to raise my children. No video games, etc. just pure country! I wouldn't take for any of it.

He got 2 birds with 3 shots. Not bad. He said he finally figured out you've got to have the right gun!

CHRISTMAS DISCOUNTS

Last week when I made my visit to the thrift shop, I found this box sitting at the front door. Do you know how fast I swooped it up!!! Had the cashier put it back for me and I made the rest of my sweep through the store. When I check out she is nice enough to list everything for me for my records. After getting home and settled, I pulled out the list and boy was I surprised. My big purchase was $1.00 yes! yes! Now I can't wait for next Christmas- it's all there too!

I had a computer virus last week and am back and running. Luckily I didn't loose any info.
I've added some of our leather star ornaments to my Etsy shop. I know it's not Christmas time, but there's no reason they should be used only for Christmas. There are many uses for these babies in your decorating or projects. Soon....Susan

New babies and a New Year

Our neighbor called last week and told us to load the girls up and bring them down to see the new babies. Morgan tried and tried to get him (the baby donkey) to come to her. She was calling him like a dog. So cute! I wish you could see the big ole pout on her face when he wouldn't mind. I thought her bottom lip was gonna end up in the dirt! Here she is giving up.

My new header made me think of all the New Year's resolutions we will all be doing. Do you have your list typed up yet? I can't say that I'm much on resolutions, but I know I should start with increasing my church attendance. It has been so easy to get out of rhythm. I have enjoyed being able to spend more time at home and get some things more organized. I am in the wonderful and exciting stages of coming up with a fun new project! I need to do some more research, but I think it's gonna be a good one for my soul. Andy and Colt will launch the opening of their boot shop the first of the year. I think Andy has moved things around plenty of times now and he should have it all where he wants it. Wish them luck!

It's christmas time again!

When I got home from work on Friday evening, Lacy and the girls had been here dragging out all my Christmas decorations. Supper was in the oven, so I didn't have any excuse other than to dig in and get started. I have ended up with my pickup, front and back seat, packed full of vintage Christmas decorations I found at our local resale shop. Since they say I'm their "best customer" (imagine that), they called me for an early preview, before their sale. I enjoyed the privilege of

helping drag it out and going through all the boxes that have been stored up all year. What fun! I am so glad to add to my vintage collection. I will have lots of these items in my Etsy shop. Please keep checking back as I get them all added. It does take time you know. In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy them until they sell.

An hour had probably gone by before I noticed this lamp shade. Lacy made it with remnants from my lace drawer and vintage decorations. It looks so great all lit up. I'll show you some of my new goodies and my decorated home in the days to come.

She was my big purchase at the auction. The little lady told me she (the mannequin) was in a display window downtown (Brownwood) when she was a teenager. Years later she bought her at an auction. She's so lovely and graceful.

Look at those sexy legs! She stands approx 30"tall.

But darn, she's missing an arm!
The hat she's dressed with covers up the amputation quite gracefully.

Andy hit a fantastic auction this weekend. After 3 pick-up and one trailer load, we finally just had to call it quits. His favorite thing is to purchase the contents of out buildings. You never know what you're gonna end up with. Most of the time it's a home run! He was just so tired and worn out, we left quite a bit behind. This sign is one of many items he snatched. We (the girls at work) have finally convinced her to drag them out and wear them. She found them in the top of her closet still in the original box. Doesn't she look great!

Home safe and sound

Well, it was a hard weekend, but we got it done. After the 5" or more of rain it was definitely LOAD time. Andy left out on Friday so he and Colt could attend the annual Boot and Saddle Makers Round up in Wichita Falls. He took one trailer load home with him. After slashing prices, I moved a lot of merchandise and was able to get it all packed up. We went with 4 pick-up and trailer loads and came home with just 2. YES 2. I think that means we did well. I'm off to work on the pile of stuff we dumped in the floor! Soon.....Susan

I have to tell you a junkin' story about an auction. Our neighbor Tammy and I went to scope out an upcoming auction. As we all do, we picked out our boxes, covered up all the good stuff, and stuck them back in the corner. Since I wasn't able to be there I put my initials on 3 boxes so she would know which ones were mine. The next day she called and mentioned that some of our boxes had been moved around and that someone elses initials were on one of my boxes. I told her not to worry about it. If I didn't get the box it just wasn't meant to be. Now, since I'm the best customer of our local thift store, when there is something vintage they know I will like, they give me a call to come look. I found this really great ironstone platter still in the box. I grabbed it up (amoung other items) and headed home. Once home, I grabbed the platter to check it out really good and then I looked down at the box. There were my initials on the box along with JR initials also. Today at work, my friend Julie Robertson stopped in and told me about the box she had bought with platters in it. AAHH!! Those were her intials on my box!! She had only wanted the pink platter and donated the remaining items to the thrift store. Can you believe how things come back around to you. That's a God thing if you ask me. It was meant to be. More Junk!

OK, Now here are a few things I found this week. First, I just need to let you know that this is my studio (or I call it the junk room). It is far from the extravagant and ultra organized studios I've seen posted recently. My recent find is the chalkware piggy bank. He is in very used condition, but he still has the cork holding his stash inside.

I fell in love with this mechanical monkey. Owner told me he worked. I haven't added batteries yet to see for sure. I hope so.

I loved this old painting. Picked up some old frames. I have a fetish for these I'm discovering. The two caricatures are so cute. Three ironstone platters, a small religious cross, vintage fruit, old brushes, mechanical kitty cat. This is all I found this week, but Andy came home yesterday with a pickup load of his favorites - rusty, crusty, metal. We have worked (Labored) the last two days on loading the trailers. I don't know how many trips we're going to make to get get all this stuff to the BIG SHOW! WHY DO WE KEEP BRINGING THIS STUFF HOME!! We are so addicted to JUNK!!! Have a great Labor Day. Susan

THE BOOT EQUIPMENT IS HERE!

Saturday morning, waaaayy tooo early, he headed out for St. Jo, Texas. Andy and Colt had previously attended the C.T. (Carl) Chappell Boot School.

They loaded lots of BIG & HEAVY equipment.

This was a pair of vintage boots on the shelf at the school. I love the stitching on these.

Enjoy all these boots made by Carl Chappell. They were all displayed in his shop. He has won several awards for his craftsmanship. I hope my guys get this good some day. I'm confident they will.

So now the equipment has landed into the building across the street from the saddle shop. It was all too big and too heavy for the floors in the shop. So....out with all our junk storage and into the trailersssss for a really big, whopping, cheap sale at Warrenton. Stay tuned for what we do with it after the Warrenton show. Great buy, but ... heavy, breakable, and takes up too much room in the trailer. So...painfully, I left it there. If anyone is looking for one just let me know and I'll put you in that direction. Have a great junkin' weekend. For me it's bank work in the morning and then scrubbing and cleaning for Warrenton.

Andy sent me this old farrier's box to put my string collection in.
Along with that he added some of the thread spools
from a saddle and boot shop he bought out years ago

See the big round ball. That came from my grandfather's garage.
Isn't it cool! He had quite a collection of string himself.
He was an avid fisherman and there was plenty of fun things in his special place.
I miss him, especially his wonderful whistling. He could yodel too.
I'm still working on the house and I promise I will send more shots
after I get all the pictures on the walls.

SAN SABA RODEO PARADE

Here's Morgan with her "Pa" (Granddad on the other side of the family). He has this great old carraige. He led the family through the parade.

Also tagging along were Caelob, (Morgan's uncle) and Mom Lacy. Jaec jumped in at the last minute for the parade, but I don't have photos of him.

SPRING HO

I learned a valuable lesson this past weekend.
I'm getting too old to sit out in the heat! Yes, Spring Ho was miserable.

Rayleigh is almost 7 months now. Just pulling up. Won't be long and we'll be chasing two of them!

I snapped this photo one day during lunch. The girls came over Saturday to enjoy the 5 minute parade we had in Cherokee. It took them longer to get to Cherokee than it did for the big show. And they were off again. Andy and I worked downtown all day. I took a leap of faith and rented booth space at the Lampasas Spring Ho Festival. I worked all day picking out what I wanted to take and loading the trailer. I still have several things I want to craft up before I leave. I am taking all girly stuff. Fun, funky and vintage. My Boot Makers Are Home

OK - Check 'em out! Is this not the coolest two pair of boots you've seen.

I am so proud of Andy and Colt. They worked very hard (12 hour days for two solid weeks). Andy made the green pair and Colt made the purple pair. They are just fantastic. The detail work in the stitching, etc is incredible. They both stated that there is nothing more comfortable than a pair of boots made to fit your own foot. We are working on gathering the remaining equipment and supplies they will need and then they will be ready to open up to the public. If you haven't already been in Andy's shop then it's worth the trip to Cherokee. Be sure and call first -- they have made the decision to work behind locked doors so they can concentrate on their work. They will be scheduling appointments. If you are truly interested in a pair of great boots from one of these talented artists you can call Andy at 325-372-1634 and Colt at 325-372-8642.

NEW TWINS IN THE FAMILY

Andy's nephew Will and his wife Sara have been blessed with twins! Boy - Leslie Allen Broyles 5lb 11 oz Girl - Lily Marie Broyles 5 lb 4 oz. Aren't they just adorable and everything went just fine. Can't wait to go see them and get my hands on 'em!

MISSION SAN SABA

This week I have volunteered my time and "abilities" to our good friends Donna and Jack Blossman and their church on a mission project. Each year they choose a needy family in our local area and completely redo their homes. Wow! You can't believe what can get done in one week. And Wow! You can't believe how rewarding it is to be a part of it all. Everyone just comes when they have the time, after work, all day, all night - just whenever. Gracious people offered to cook 3 meals a day so they can be renourished and get back to it again. They have fund raisers and donations from locals to make it all work. So... my challenge to you...volunteer..... somewhere.....sometime....anyway....someone always needs help and it feels so good to give of yourself! No excuses either, I worked full time all week! I sure am getting tired though.

I can't wait for Andy and Colt to return home from boot making school. They have one more week to go. What a new endeavor in all of our lives. We are all excited and Andy promised to take photos of their experience. Stay tuned for more ...... Susan

I also picked up 4 great vintage dresses and you won't believe it, but
they all fit me perfectly. So now do I wear them myself or try to move them?

Introducing my new note card line

Well, I'm still waiting on a couple of images to be fine tuned at the printer's, but I think I need to go ahead and introduce my new note card line. I guess you could say I'm a little nervous. Of course, I think they are wonderful, but will everyone else? So here I go and bite the bullet. I will merchandise the cards in a set of 10. Each set will be tied with a delicate lace for "eye candy". I have been asked to make up an assorted set so why not. If you are interested, just send me an e-mail (foundaround@centex.net) with your request and I will ship them out. They are available for $15.95 per set including tax and shipping. Morgan and "Beans"

Friday afternoon Morgan was all dressed up and ready to go to a youth rodeo in San Saba. Great Nana B. and Robbie were taking her to see all the animals. It was so hot she was dressed in her denim shorts and boots and the bling belt that Grandad made her for her birthday. Adorable! I love this shot, I'm thinking of switching it to black and white.

Ok, now introducing "Beans"! He was recovered by Aunt Jimma at birth and has done really well. He is a wild hog. Morgan is feeding him his bottle. He's just like raising a baby goat. He's growing really fast. I don't know what they will do with him when he grows up. Don't worry - he gets regular baths and I don't think he'll be bacon!

We're getting a big hug here. Hope you're enjoying all this country life I'm letting you in on lately.

MOTHER'S DAY AT FRED'S WORLD

At the last minute the kids wanted to move our Mother's Day function to Fred's World. So we jumped up early this morning and starting cleaning up the place. After a couple of hours hard manual labor, we decided it was good enough for now. They all apologized of course, but we were just glad to be forced into working out there. It cleaned up really well at short notice. This first photo is an old military cot that I just threw a quilt on. Morgan enjoyed jumping on it!

Here's a shot of some old galvanized barrels Andy has loaded with bones, rocks, metal, etc. Can you pick out the armadillos, jackrabbit and lizzard?

How do you like the way I stacked the cactus plants in these old milk crates. Check out the rusty cactus on the table top.

Andy still picks up these old rusty metal chairs. He has quite an assortment now. He even found Morgan one at the Lampasas City Wide Sale. We just spread them around the entertainment area.

Instead of scrubbing down the picnic table, I threw an old quilt over the top and folded up a pair of chenille bedspreads over the benches.
We had a lovely afternoon all 20 or so of us. Great food and lots of yacking!

I've been told I need to blog more. Okay! What else could I blog about right now. I just had to show this little cutie off. I know she's just 17 mos old now, but she is already picking out her own clothes. So - today is cowboy boot day. She had to come out and look for #9 (I posted about him earlier). He's weined now but stops by the house every now and then to say hello. She just chases him around the yard and he doesn't give a rip about her anymore. When he's not around when she comes out she calls for him constantly. Oh the country life - how could anyone raise kids any other way!

We have tt'd in the potty twice this week. Things are going good at Fred's World.

JUNKORAMA "PROM"

Well, here we are at the big "Prom". My first time to attend. I was really looking forward to being there. I must say the evening was great! The atmosphere downtown Warrenton was wonderful. Everyone was all dressed up in their vintage/Texas western costumes. The band was great and our tour of the Junk Gypsy booth was fun too. Hope you enjoy.

Oh, first the infamous boots! I have enjoyed them so much. If you didn't already know, I bought these at Warrenton a couple of years ago.

Swinging to the tunes....

John Evans band...played 50's style music. A Buddy Holly knock off. They were great!

Everyone was pooped out! Isn't she adorable.

Well, now I can say I have been to the "Prom". It was an adventure, but everyone was so tired from fighting the wind all day, we retired without any major events! If you ever get the opportunity to attend in the future, I highly recommend the experience.
